Covid-19 has changed the way consumers get their daily caffeine intake: consumption habits have been altered as more and more people are drinking coffee at home. But change brings new opportunities: roasters are adapting their offering to these new trends and single-serve pods are a key success factor to survive in this “new market.” Simultaneously, consumers, governments, and NGO’s have unprecedented awareness of climate change and the environmental impact of single-use packaging including spent coffee pods. In response, growing circular economy frameworks like the New Plastics Economy from the Ellen MacArthur Foundation are explicitly prioritizing the scale-up of compostable packaging for coffee capsules to help recover the nutrients from the brewed coffee grounds.
In this webinar we will discuss how a fully compostable pod provides a simple system for diverting used coffee grounds to industrial compost, highlight compostable material trends and pod designs, and how this all comes in a high quality, convenient home brewing experience for consumers.
