National Coffee Association welcomes first-ever
Congressional Coffee Caucus

For immediate release

NEW YORK| APRIL 8, 2025 - The National Coffee Association (NCA) today (Tuesday) applauded the leadership of Congresswoman Jill Tokuda (D-HI) and Congressman William Timmons (R-SC) in establishing a bipartisan Congressional Coffee Caucus - the first dedicated to celebrating and advancing America’s favorite beverage.

The Caucus’ mission is to advance awareness of coffee’s health benefits, highlight coffee’s enormous positive impact on U.S. jobs and the economy, and strengthen the resilience of the global coffee supply chain that enables coffee’s journey from seed to cup.

Caucus co-chair Congressman William Timmons (R-SC) commented:

“Coffee is a vital part of the U.S. economy, supporting millions of American jobs and generating billions in revenue from coast to coast. Beyond that, its health benefits keep our workforce sharp. The Coffee Caucus celebrates this powerhouse industry by uniting lawmakers over a cup, fostering bipartisan collaboration, and paving the way for policies that strengthen both our economy and our well-being."

Caucus co-chair Congresswoman Jill Tokuda (D-HI) added:

"Coffee is more than just a daily ritual—it’s a vital pillar of our economy, supporting millions of farmers, businesses, and communities across the country.

From the fields in my home state of Hawaiʻi, to the roasteries and manufacturing plants in South Carolina and Vermont, coffee is consumed and enjoyed in every congressional district in the nation. That’s why I’m proud to launch the Congressional Coffee Caucus with my colleague Rep. Timmons to highlight the positive impacts of our coffee industry that brings people together, one cup at a time."

NCA President and CEO William “Bill” Murray thanked the co-chairs for their leadership, noting:

“With two-thirds of American adults drinking coffee each day, NCA is proud to see Congressional leaders sharing the joy of coffee and kicking off this historic effort to recognize coffee as a touchstone in Americans’ daily lives and a huge driver of economic value in every U.S. state and territory.”

Coffee is America’s favorite beverage - enjoyed by 63% of American adults each day, according to the NCA’s National Coffee Data Trends report. The U.S. coffee industry accounts for 8% of the total value of the U.S. food service sector, supporting 2.2 million jobs and adding more than $343 billion to the U.S. economy each year.

Also contributing to coffee’s popularity is Americans’ growing interest in health. Decades of robust independent scientific evidence show that drinking coffee is associated with decreased risk of multiple cancers and chronic diseases, as well as overall increased longevity.
